Fall AIChE Meeting Highlights



Outstanding FRI Contributors Recognized by the Seperations Division at the 2016 AIChE Fall Meeting

The 2016 AIChE Fall meeting was held in San Francisco from November 13 - 18.

Paul Steacy Honors Session

Paul Steacy was recognized for his many accomplishments with UOP and FRI during an Honors Session of the Separations Division of AIChE at the San Francisco meeting. Paul recently retired after 41 years with UOP.  FRI was pleased to help organize the Honors Session, and presented highlights of his technical contributions over the past 20 years, during which Paul was the chairman of the FRI TC and TAC committees. 

The AIChE Separations Division Awards

Dan Summers, Sulzer Chemtech Limited, USA, was the recipient of the Clarence R. Gerhold Award, which recognizes an individual's outstanding contribution in research, development, or in the application of chemical separations technology.

Mark Pilling, Sulzer Chemtech Limited, USA, was the recipient of the Separations Division Founders Award, which recognizes outstanding service to the Separations Division.

The FRI John Kunesh award was presented to Krista Walton, Professor at Georgia Tech.  Krista was recognized for her many improvements to the development of metal-organic framework (MOF) adsorbents.



Distillation Sessions

The distillation sessions in the meeting featured several interesting distillation and absorption topics. The sessions were well attended with an average attendance of about 30.

Two of the popular distillation presentations were:

  • Tomographic Determination of Fluid Dynamic Parameters for ThreePhase Systems in Packed Columns – by Thomas Linder
  • Main fractionator control and inferred temperature monitoring - by Andrew Sloley

The 2017 AIChE Spring meeting will feature a Kister Distillation Symposium and will be held in San Antonio from March 26 - 30, 2017
