FRI would like to recognize Mr. Paul Steacy for his contributions and thank him for his time and support.  Paul was elected Chairman of the FRI Technical Committees (TC & TAC) in 1995 and served in this capacity until this summer.

As a world premier research organization, FRI has been responsible for some of the most significant advances in separation engineering for the chemical process industries. And, as the Chairman of the TC & TAC, Paul has been instrumental in all phases of FRI research programs contributing to these advances.  During Paul’s tenure as Chairman, FRI has achieved many things.

  • Implementation of DRP as a premier hydraulic rating program;
  • Testing of state of the art high capacity devices;
  • Published new correlations and models;
  • Done extensive valve tray studies;
  • Discovered structured packing humps in HETP graphs at high pressure;
  • Upgraded the experimental unit with increased unit experimental capacity;
  • Executed a robust Category 1, 3 and R&D test program, such as foaming testing, bed length and wetting effects on packing performances, liquid and vapor maldistribution studies;
  • Established parallel research programs such as kettle reboiler hydraulic studies;
  • Collaborated with OSU, ZJUT and Yokogawa etc.;
  • Held regular FRI special meetings in Asia and Europe.

Paul’s contributions extend beyond his technical contributions.  He is a strong advocate for FRI.  He attended several new member trainings and special technical meetings where he demonstrated how to use FRI tools and discussed the benefits of being a member.

Paul has also been a great mentor to many FRI staff members.  He is always willing to share his knowledge and expertise.  All of us here at FRI will miss him and his unique brand of humor and wit.

Enjoy a few pictures from Paul's time with FRI. Please join us in celebrating Paul’s contributions and share your personal stories and sentiments.
