Protect your back by using the right ladder, step stool or platform when reaching for things overhead.

  • Standing on tip toes with arms locked to reach something high bends the spine, adding extra pressure.
  • Keep one foot in front of the other (wide base of support). Use a safe platform or step stool if work area cannot be reached comfortably without fully extending your arms.
  • If possible, store materials within safe reach of floor or other secure work platform.
  • Don’t store heavy items overhead!
