Safety Nugget Week of February 15 - Sunburn Prevention< Back to Blog

It has not been a terribly cold winter but we have been bundled up and our bodies are not used to the sun.  My fourth grader has already started going on end-of-year field trips and I always end up with a horrible sunburn in early spring because I just don't think I need sunscreen yet.

Put sunscreen on your next shopping list so you have it handy when you find yourself outdoors at a soccer, softball or baseball game.

Here are a few more reminders so you enjoy the springtime weather without getting burned:

  • Always wear sunscreen
  • Avoid the sun's strongest rays during the middle of the day
  • Wear clothes that protect your arms and legs and a hat that shield your face, ears and neck.
  • Reapply sunscreen every 3 hours, or more if you get sweaty or swim.  (There is no such thing as waterproof sunscreen.)

Remember, even a tan is sun damage.
