For certain jobs, wearing safety glasses or a face shield to protect a person’s eyes is a requirement.  It is important for individuals to identify tasks outside of the work place that also require eye protection to be used.

Some of these activities can be working with power tools and mowing lawns.  When selecting safety glasses for these types of activities, it is important to pick the correct type.  An article about safety glasses on the All about Vision website provides information for choosing safety glasses for home use.

A primary consideration when choosing safety glasses for home use is to choose safety frames and lenses rated for high impact.  These can be picked up from hardware and sporting goods stores if a prescription is not required.  Frames marked with “Z87+” will have a high impact rating.  It is important to use the high impact for use when mowing lawns and using power tools.  High impact glasses can also be used for recreational sports.
