Beyond State of the Art - Where do the future needs of industry and distillation intersect? What should you be looking for to meet your future needs?

FRI recently concluded its spring annual meetings, which featured a session dedicated to exploring emerging technologies. Guest speakers Mr. Elbert van der Bijl, Director of Marketing and Solutions Consulting at Yokogawa, and Mr. Rich Schutte, Technical and Professional Lead of Sales Engineering at Percepto, showcased their companies' pioneering services for the industry.

During the session, Mr. Van der Bijl delved into the topic of "New Technologies enabling a transformation from Industrial Automation to Industrial Autonomy (IA2IA)," offering insights into cutting-edge advancements. For those interested, he was kind enough to share his book recommendations; The Coming Wave: Technology, Power, and the Twenty-first Century's Greatest Dilemma: Suleyman, Mustafa, Bhaskar, Michael (by a.o. the founder of Deepmind). Looking at the possibilities but mostly on the challenges around containment of AI and the risks associated with it. Also, AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future: Lee, Kai-Fu, Qiufan, Chen. This book is more on the possible scenarios for the public in the future. An interesting and enjoyable read.

Meanwhile, Mr. Schutte shared valuable insights on "Autonomous Solutions: Lessons learned: Scaling LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) in practice with remotely operated autonomous Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) drones," shedding light on practical applications and lessons gleaned from implementing autonomous solutions.

FRI extends its gratitude to both guest speakers and eagerly anticipates the integration of these innovative services into the industry, fostering enhanced efficiency and safety.
